Football Recap: Lovejoy Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Lovejoy and Argyle squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Lovejoy had to settle for second. They lost 42-17 to the Argyle Eagles. The Leopards' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Several Leopards players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Daylan McCutcheon, who picked up 131 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Lovejoy wouldn't let Argyle keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Lovejoy can thank James Markovich and Gavin Prince for forcing both of them. Markovich also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with eight. Lovejoy got some further help from Owen Magee: he picked up a sack and made 12 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Argyle's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maguire Gasperson, who threw for 142 yards and two touchdowns on only six passes, and also rushed for 41 yards and one touchdown. 113 of Gasperson's passing yards were hauled in by Julian Caldwell, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Lovejoy's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4. As for Argyle, the win was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-1.

Lovejoy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Argyle, they will look to defend their home field on December 13th against South Oak Cliff at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Argyle has won 12 straight at home dating back to last season, while South Oak Cliff won six straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
