After a string of three wins, the Lake Region Thunder's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took a 65-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lake Buena Vista. Lake Region was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vipers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Defeat or not, Lake Region got some senior leadership from Devan Booker and Dwayne Lattimore. Booker scored 15 points, while Lattimore. almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Lattimore hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Malachi Scott, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Lake Region were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake Buena Vista only posted seven assists.
Leading Lake Buena Vista to victory were Bryan Mwangovya and Travis Ligene. Mwangovya scored 15 points along with two steals, while Ligene scored 17 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Nash Barfield was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Lake Region's loss dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Lake Buena Vista, their victory bumped their record up to 8-15.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake Region will take on the Hawks at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Santa Fe Catholic has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 820 points over their last 12 games. As for Lake Buena Vista, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Tohopekaliga knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully the Vipers likes a good challenge.
