Point Loma and Christian are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Pointers will take on the Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Point Loma will be strutting in after a win while Christian will be coming in after a loss.
On Wednesday, Point Loma needed a bit of extra time to put away Scripps Ranch. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Falcons. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 25, 2018, but that streak is no more.
Remington Spangler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ella Poulin, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Christian came up short against Cathedral Catholic on Wednesday and fell 8-5.
Christian saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sienna Staite, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Point Loma's record is now 15-8. As for Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-11-1 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Point Loma hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Point Loma was able to grind out a solid win over Christian when the teams last played two weeks ago, winning 6-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pointers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
