The Bison Cardinals will head out on the road to challenge the Wakpala Sioux at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Bison came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 points) and they left with even more momentum. They secured a 60-56 W over McIntosh.
Rylee Veal was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That makes it 16 consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Bison's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Colt Kopren, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Wakpala had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They took down Herreid/Selby 61-47. That's two games straight that Wakpala has won by exactly 14 points.
Bison's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-10. As for Wakpala, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.
Bison barely slipped by Wakpala in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, winning 56-55. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bison since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
