The La Joya Coyotes have not had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They managed a 33-28 victory over Pharr-San Juan-Alamo on Tuesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as La Joya also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
La Joya's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Isabella Garcia led the charge by scoring nine points along with ten rebounds. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Cynthia Longoria was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jackie Molina, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds. Molina scored a full 42.9% of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Valeria Pedraza, who scored five points.
La Joya's win bumped their record up to 8-23. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-18 record this season.
La Joya will be playing at home against Edinburg at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Edinburg is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 11 games. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, they will head out on the road to face off against Edinburg North at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Edinburg North focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday.
