The Bluefield Beavers will square off against the James Monroe Mavericks at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. James Monroe took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Bluefield, who comes in off a win.
Bluefield is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Montcalm on Wednesday as they made off with a 23-4 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Beavers with their most commanding win of the season.

Sophie Hall made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddie Lawson, who fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-4. Taylor Mabry was another key player, going a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs and four RBI.
Bluefield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .674. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, James Monroe was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They came up short against Jackson, falling 11-1.
James Monroe's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Bluefield, their win bumped their record up to 3-9.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bluefield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .366. However, it's not like James Monroe struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bluefield took their victory against James Monroe when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 7-1 score. Will the Beavers repeat their success, or do the Mavericks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
