The Paetow Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Tompkins Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Paetow fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Katy Taylor 13-10.
Meanwhile, Tompkins had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.8 points), and they went ahead and made it five last Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 49-24 margin over Jordan. Considering Tompkins has won six matches by more than 20 points this season, last Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Tompkins' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Caleb Blocker, who rushed for 178 yards and two touchdowns, and Wyatt Young, who rushed for 235 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 14.7 yards per carry. Young was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 52 yards.
Tompkins' defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Rotimi Olayinka and his two sacks.
Paetow's victory bumped their record up to 2-7. As for Tompkins, their victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-3.
Paetow suffered a grim 41-17 defeat to Tompkins in their previous matchup back in November of 2022. Can Paetow avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
