Even though the Hamilton Wildcats scored an imposing 67 points on Monday, the Melrose Golden Wildcats still came out on top. Melrose had just enough and edged the Wildcats out 70-67. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Melrose.
Devin Sanders Jr continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 18 rebounds. Sanders Jr is crushing the rebound category: he's posted at least ten every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Cooley, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Timothy Matthews and Devan McGee certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Matthews scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks, while McGee scored 24 points along with six rebounds. Matthews hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Rodney Mcneal was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Melrose pushed their record up to 17-6 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Hamilton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-14.
Melrose won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Knights at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th. Power Center Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 641 points over their last ten matchups. As for Hamilton, they will head out on the road to face off against the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Kirby has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 21.
