For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last six times Springstead and Central have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Friday. Everything went Springstead's way against Central as Springstead made off with a 12-2 victory. Considering the Eagles have won four games by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Dalton Williams made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrew Ward, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one triple. Another player making a difference was Nathaniel Sabino, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.
Springstead always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Springstead pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Citrus, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Springstead's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Citrus has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Springstead, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 strikeouts. Will Citrus keep running through batters, or will Springstead buck the trend?
Citrus came up short against Springstead in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 7-2. Can Citrus avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
