5A District 6 recap September 24, 2013
South Sumter extended the longest winning streak in 5A District 6 this week by beating Zephyrhills, 38-15. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Nature Coast Tech took down Central 34-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Ryan Quigley threw for 90 yards and ran for 37 yards during the win.
Quigley and Christian Maner gave the Sharks a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Teammate DeShawn Smith added to the ground attack by rushing for 80 yards.
Quigley and Maner gave Nature Coast Tech a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week.
Jonathan King was the best receiver in the league this week as Weeki Wachee lost to Hernando. King racked up 6 receptions for 91 yards. Kyle Keelan helped Weeki Wachee's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 37 yards.
Marcus Allen provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Hornets fell to the Leopards. He completed 12 passes for 146 yards and also ran for 42 yards.
Quigley put up the best numbers in passing as Charles Liggett's team beat the Bears. Quigley's favorite target this week was Lenny Beetz, who caught 3 passes for 69 yards.
Maner was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 95 yards on 10 carries as the Sharks fell to Hernando.
Mark Lee's team's 6-foot-0 quarterback David Tinch is the league leader in passing yards this season with 350. The leading receiver in the league this season is Malik Johns. The Pasco star has 10 catches for 201 yards.
A big matchup in 5A District 6 this week will be when Pasco takes on Nature Coast Tech. The Pirates are currently in third, while the Sharks are in fourth.
The Hornets made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,972 from 9,594. The advance stemmed from a 27-10 victory over Weeki Wachee last week.
