Baseball Recap: Naugatuck Has No Trouble Against Derby

Naugatuck came out on top against Derby on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run first inning. The Greyhounds blew past the Red Raiders 12-1. That's more bragging rights for the Greyhounds, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Jordan Stanco was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Isaiah Brenes was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Naugatuck always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Derby only posted an OBP of .211.

The win made it two in a row for Naugatuck and bumps their season record up to 9-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Derby, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Naugatuck is set to take on their familiar foe Waterbury Career Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Derby will square off against rival Oxford at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
