Avella has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Union Area Scotties at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Union Area took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Avella, who comes in off a win.
Even though Avella has not done well against Carlynton recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, Avella made off with a 61-60 victory over Carlynton. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Union Area's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 58-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of Farrell. While losing is never fun, Union Area can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 523rd, while Farrell is ranked 253rd).
Avella's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-6. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.67 points across that stretch. As for Union Area, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.
Avella took a serious blow against Union Area when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 60-31.
