The Mercy Jaguars are taking a road trip to take on the Ballard Bruins at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mercy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Assumption hit Mercy with a four-run fifth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Jaguars fell 10-5 to the Rockets. The Jaguars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ava Reinhart made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Allie Streble, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Ballard had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Wednesday. They blew past the Eagles 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Bruins, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Shelby James made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Aubrie Newton was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since April 1st. Payton Downey was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Ballard's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Mercy, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.
Mercy skirted past Ballard 4-3 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jaguars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
