Edgewood is 2-7 against Pymatuning Valley since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Edgewood Warriors will be home for the holidays to greet the Pymatuning Valley Lakers at 5:00 p.m. Edgewood is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
Even though Edgewood has not done well against Jefferson Area recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Edgewood walked away with a 57-45 victory over Jefferson Area. Given Edgewood's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while Jefferson Area is ranked 451st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Katie Mccollister was her usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with four steals. The matchup was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Annie mae Johnston, who scored 11 points along with six steals and five assists.
Meanwhile, Pymatuning Valley's game on Thursday was all tied up 24-24 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top against Maplewood by a score of 55-48. The victory was just what Pymatuning Valley needed coming off of a 66-41 loss in their prior contest.
Among those leading the charge was Jolene Sharpe, who scored 14 points along with six steals. She also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah DeMoss, who scored 14 points.
Edgewood's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-0. As for Pymatuning Valley, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Friday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Edgewood have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 35.1 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Pymatuning Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 32.4 rebounds per game. Given Edgewood's sizeable advantage in that area, Pymatuning Valley will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything went Edgewood's way against Pymatuning Valley in their previous meeting back in February as Edgewood made off with a 69-45 victory. Does Edgewood have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pymatuning Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
