Meanwhile, Ponce De Leon didn't have quite enough to beat Paxton on Thursday and fell 5-3. The loss continues a trend for the Pirates in their meetings with the Bobcats: they've now lost eight in a row.
Kiyann Alford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ponce De Leon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Georgianna Churchwell, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Another was Payton Joyner, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.
Ponce De Leon's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Baker, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 6-3.
Ponce De Leon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Baker hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .342. It's a different story for Ponce De Leon, though, as they've only averaged .233. Will they be able to contain Baker's hitters?
