The Martin Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Nixon Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Martin gave up the first points last Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Winn by a score of 23-13.
Meanwhile, Nixon had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 28-27 win over Southwest Legacy.
Nixon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was RAY GONZALEZ, who threw for 331 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.7 yards per attempt. GONZALEZ is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Nixon also got help from Shawn David haynes who showed off his sure hands for 110 receiving yards.
Another reason for the win was Nixon's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Southwest Legacy's QB won't forget Andy Moncada anytime soon given Moncada sacked him four times.
Martin's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 4-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 29.3 points per game. As for Nixon, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
Martin didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Nixon in their previous matchup back in November of 2022, but they still walked away with a 21-15 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Martin since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
