The Gilbert Christian Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 61-40 defeat at the hands of Coolidge. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Gilbert Christian has suffered since December 15, 2023.
Gilbert Christian's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Unesu Machiri, who scored 15 points along with three steals, and Kaila Aston who scored four points along with two steals and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Lillie Duitsman, who scored five points.
Coolidge found their leader in underclassman Alaysia White, who dropped a triple-double on 25 points, 17 rebounds, and ten steals. White is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Naylissa Charles, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Gilbert Christian's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 8-9. As for Coolidge, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-7.
Gilbert Christian won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Florence at 5:30 p.m. on January 18th. Hopefully Florence focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 last Monday. As for Coolidge, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Globe at 5:30 p.m. Globe will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 238th, while Coolidge is ranked 83rd).
