South Platte has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against The Potter-Dix Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, South Platte humbled Banner County with a 54-14 victory. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-0.
South Platte's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bryer Wilson, who rushed for 44 yards and two touchdowns. Joshua Estrada also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Banner County to a paltry 142 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to South Platte's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Jarrette Schwartz and Wilson who racked up four sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Potter-Dix put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They walked away with a 36-28 victory over Garden County.
Brayden Kasten was a one-man wrecking crew for Potter-Dix as he picked up 93 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground.
Their wins bumped South Platte to 4-3 and Potter-Dix to 7-0.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: South Platte has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 176.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Potter-Dix struggles in that department as they've been even better at 233.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
South Platte was dealt a bruising 81-28 defeat at the hands of Potter-Dix in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Thankfully for South Platte, Luke Kasten (who rushed for 225 yards and five touchdowns on only ten carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
