Cahokia is 2-8 against Mt. Vernon since November of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Cahokia Comanches on the road again and play against the Mt. Vernon Rams at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Cahokia will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 468th, while Mt. Vernon is ranked 42nd).
Cahokia suffered their biggest loss yet this season last Thursday. They had to suffer through a rough 67-33 loss at the hands of Centralia. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Cahokia in their matchups with Centralia: they've now lost eight in a row.
Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon can now show off 13 landslide victories after their most recent match on Saturday. They really took it to Carbondale for the full four quarters, racking up a 74-37 win on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Mt. Vernon has posted since December 16, 2023.
Mt. Vernon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Melaina Zedalis, who scored 22 points. Tiara Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 20 points.
Cahokia has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Mt. Vernon, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 18 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season.
Cahokia was dealt a bruising 98-35 defeat at the hands of Mt. Vernon in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Cahokia was down 60-20.
