Basketball Recap: Vernon Sets Scoring Season-High Against Poplar Springs

Vernon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 27th straight loss dating back to last season. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 64-58 heartbreaker at the hands of the Poplar Springs Atomics. One positive for the Yellowjackets, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Poplar Springs was led to victory by Baron Hall and Jamal Carnley. Hall went 10 of 13 en route to 22 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, while Carnley dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 assists. Those 12 assists gave Carnley a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Hall, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 10 points and five boards.

Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 0-15. As for Poplar Springs, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-11.

Vernon and Poplar Springs could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Vernon will square off against Baker at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday down 452 places (770 vs. 318). Similarly, Poplar Springs (ranked 695th) will meet Malone (ranked 337th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
