Basketball Recap: Central Christian Takes a Loss

Central Christian easily dispatched Lafayette Christian last Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Central Christian Crusaders fell just short of the Konos Academy Condor by a score of 72-69 on Saturday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Crusaders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 64-32 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Central Christian still got an impressive performance from Rocky Steidinger, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 21 rebounds. Steidinger is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down 11 or more in the last 21 games he's played dating back to last season. Carter Patterson was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to seven rebounds and four blocks.

Even though they lost, Central Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Konos Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Joshua Knapp led the charge by going 8 for 18 en route to 20 points. Another player making a difference was Samuel Brezina, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 15 points along with eight boards and three steals.

Central Christian's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Konos Academy, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-11 record.

Central Christian has already played their next game (against Holy Ground Baptist Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Konos Academy will welcome Springwood at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Konos Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
