The Magdalena Steers are taking a road trip to take on the Cimarron Rams at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Magdalena has 13 straight victories, Cimarron has nine straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Monday, Magdalena made easy work of Logan and carried off a 17-3 win. The Steers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Ayden Herschbach and Joseph Zamora did most of the damage at the plate: Herschbach got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Zamora got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Javen Tafoya, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Magdalena was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .345 or higher in 13 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Cimarron came up short against Grady on Monday, falling 21-3.
Cimarron saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Orion Ledoux, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. Ledoux has become a key player for the Rams: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-8 otherwise.
Magdalena's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.1 runs over those games. As for Cimarron, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Magdalena hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .400. However, it's not like Cimarron struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Magdalena took their victory against Cimarron in their previous meeting last Monday by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Steers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
