4A Region 6 recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Port Gibson, who took down 72nd ranked Port Gibson, 36-7. Julius Craft in the win.
Germantown was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in 4A Region 6. Earlier in the week, the Mavericks triumphed over Newton County 19-7.
Florence's dynamic duo of Cole Robinson and Dalton Smith proved tough for Magee to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Robinson threw for 208 yards and four touchdowns and Smith had 228 yards receiving. Austin Mathews helped Florence's passing attack out by catching one ball for 12 yards.
Alonzo Brown provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Trojans beat the Eagles. He completed six passes for 95 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 160 yards. Brown's favorite target this week was Kendrick Williamson, who caught one pass for 36 yards.
Savon Robinson was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 241 yards on 11 carries as Raymond fell to Magee. Teammate Kristafer Kimble added to the ground attack by rushing for 117 yards.
5-foot-11 quarterback Tyler Shell of Germantown is the league leader in passing yards this season with 793. He has also thrown four touchdowns. On the ground, the Rangers' Kimble has rushed for 468 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Smith. The Florence star has 28 catches for 498 yards.
A big matchup in 4A Region 6 this week will be when the Blue Waves take on Raymond. As it stands, Port Gibson is in first, while Ray Durr's team is in fifth.
Tim Shramek's team moved up to 118 from 196 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Mavericks climbed the ranks as a result of a 19-7 win over the Cougars.
