Menlo-Atherton will head out to face Half Moon Bay after giving up their first home loss of the season on Tuesday. The Bears came up short against Woodside, falling 15-1. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Bears couldn't push the score so high this time.
Menlo-Atherton saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Rodgers, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Half Moon Bay never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They put the hurt on University with a sharp 10-0 win. Considering the Cougars have won six contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kylie King made a splash no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bailey Gunning, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Mia Modena was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
Half Moon Bay was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 8-3. As for Half Moon Bay, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Menlo-Atherton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Half Moon Bay struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Menlo-Atherton skirted past Half Moon Bay 5-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Bears have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
