Post Falls is 1-9 against Lake City since April of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Trojans will head out on the road to take on the Timberwolves at 12:00 p.m. Post Falls is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Post Falls came out on top against Sandpoint on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run seventh inning. The Trojans walked away with a 9-4 win over the Bulldogs.
Rylan Morrison spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Post Falls let McKenna Zimmerman and Jaya Felix run wild. Zimmerman went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI, while Felix went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most hits Felix has posted since back in March.
Post Falls kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lake City, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They put the hurt on Timberlake with a sharp 15-1 victory on Tuesday. The Timberwolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by six runs or more this season.
Madalynn Blood made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Blood was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Layla Gugino was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Lopez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Lake City is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Post Falls, the victory got them back to even at 10-10.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Post Falls hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Lake City struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Post Falls might still be hurting after the 11-5 loss they got from Lake City in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
