The Martin County Tigers are taking a road trip to take on the Palm Beach Central Broncos at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Martin County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
Martin County easily dispatched Treasure Coast on Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Martin County fell just short of Sebring by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday. The game marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Martin County got a good showing from Joseph Cuccurullo, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Cuccurullo has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, Palm Beach Central waltzed into their match on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Chiefs as they made off with a 16-3 win. The Broncos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by nine runs or more this season.
Ernesto Hernandez looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
At the plate, Ryan Levy was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Jabari Seguignol, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Palm Beach Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .517. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Palm Beach Central's record now sits at 9-3. As for Martin County, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Martin County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Palm Beach Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Martin County came out on top in a nail-biter against Palm Beach Central when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 9-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for Martin County since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
