The Weslaco Panthers put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 44-6 win over Hanna. Considering Weslaco has won five matches by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Weslaco had a senior duo take command as Elias Rodriguez jr rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries and Andres Sepulveda threw for 136 yards and two touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes. Rodriguez jr's longest rush was for an incredible 74 yards. Another player making a difference was Francisco Trevino, who picked up 94 receiving yards and a touchdown.
When it comes to explaining why Hanna lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mario Garcia . Despite the final result, he rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries.
Even if they lost, Hanna's defensive line sure didn't make it easy: Weslaco's QB was sacked three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Nicolas Woo and his two sacks.
Weslaco's victory was their sixth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-8 Hanna and 1-7 Rivera (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 37.3% over those games). As for Hanna, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
Weslaco will head out on the road to face off against San Benito at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams might be coming in a bit winded given how much these teams ran in their prior games. As for Hanna, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rivera at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Rivera comes in on a streak of failing to score more than ten points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
