On Thursday, Horizon Christian Academy came up short against Strong Rock Christian and fell 61-53. While losing is never fun, Horizon Christian Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 471st, while Strong Rock Christian is ranked 97th).
Horizon Christian Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Evan Holcombe, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds. The match was Holcombe's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Hunter Beenken was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with nine rebounds.
Strong Rock Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zack Phillips, who scored 30 points along with six rebounds and five assists. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which Phillips has scored at least 25% of Strong Rock Christian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Asa Shearer, who scored 17 points along with three steals.
Horizon Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Strong Rock Christian, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 12-0.
Horizon Christian Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Notre Dame Academy at 3:00 p.m. on January 6, 2024. After both having extra time off, Strong Rock Christian and Lafayette Christian will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 5:30 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Lafayette Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Strong Rock Christian likes a good challenge.
