The Minden Whippets gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They blew past Southern Valley 61-40. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Minden also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
Minden can attribute much of their success to Kade Dorszynski, who scored 19 points along with 3 steals. Brycen Schwenka was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 10 points and 11 rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Southern Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tylor Grove. Despite the final result, he scored 7 points along with 10 rebounds and 4 steals. Another player making a difference was Paden Schriner, who scored 6 points.
Even though they lost, Southern Valley were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Minden only pulled down 20.
Minden's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Southern Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Minden will head out on the road to face off against Ogallala at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Southern Valley, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Elm Creek at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Elm Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Thursday.
