The West Iron County Wykons on the road again on Thursday and play against the Escanaba Eskymos at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th.
West Iron County suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They suffered a tough 71-49 defeat at the hands of Houghton. While losing is never fun, West Iron County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 313th, while Houghton is ranked 120th).
Meanwhile, Escanaba strolled past Hancock with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 49-30.
Escanaba got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Keira Maki out in front who scored 17 points along with six assists and six rebounds. Maki is absolutely dominating the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Grayson Lamarche, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
West Iron County now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Escanaba, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 4-6 record this season.
West Iron County was dealt a bruising 73-38 defeat at the hands of Escanaba in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can West Iron County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
