Blackfoot is 9-1 against Hillcrest since December of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Blackfoot Broncos on the road again and play against the Hillcrest Knights at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Wednesday, Blackfoot faced Shelley in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Blackfoot was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 58-57 to Shelley.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jaci Capson, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Marlee Pieper was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Hillcrest's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their eighth straight loss. They fell just short of Bonneville by a score of 69-66. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Hillcrest has suffered yet this season.
Blackfoot's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-7. As for Hillcrest, they bumped their record down to 2-13 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home.
Blackfoot took their victory against Hillcrest in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 62-36. The rematch might be a little tougher for Blackfoot since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
