DePaul Catholic had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Passaic Valley on Thursday. The Spartans blew past the Hornets 15-4. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won six contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

DePaul Catholic's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Passaic Valley, their loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-3.

DePaul Catholic and Passaic Valley should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings. The Spartans (ranked eighth) will meet St. Mary (ranked 109th) at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (DePaul Catholic 3.2, the Gaels 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Passaic Valley will challenge Montclair at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank advantage (28 vs. 176).
