The Richmond Red Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the Centerville Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Richmond's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Centerville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Richmond is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Saturday, they were much more limited against Pendleton Heights on Monday. They lost 9-1 to the Arabians. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Red Devils have suffered since April 27, 2024.
Richmond got a good showing from Cameron Rodriquez, who tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Richmond saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Corey Day, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Centerville was able to grind out a solid victory over Union County on Wednesday, taking the game 6-1. The win continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won six in a row.
Landen Schlotterbeck spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Nick Tinkle was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Centerville's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 2-10 when he doesn't). Aiden Nelson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Richmond's loss dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Centerville, their record is now 4-11.
Richmond couldn't quite get it done against Centerville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can the Red Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
