While it was all tied up 20-20 at halftime, the Ellendale Cardinals were not quite the Lisbon Broncos's equal in the second half on Friday. Ellendale took a 49-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Broncos. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Ellendale in their matchups with the Broncos: they've now lost seven in a row.
Lisbon got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ryatt Wertman out in front who scored nine points. Kaia Sweet was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Ellendale has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Lisbon, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-14.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ellendale won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Tigers at 1:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Tri-State co-op [Rosholt/Fairmount/Campbell-Tintah] has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 16. As for Lisbon, they will be playing at home against the Tornadoes at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Oakes focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Thursday.
