The Smithville Tigers lost against the Columbus Cardinals back in November of 2020, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Smithville took a 62-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Columbus. Smithville has struggled against Columbus recently, as their match on Thursday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Smithville saw an underclassman step up: Ladonije Lewis scored 21 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Lewis set a new season high mark in points with 21. Monica Lewis was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
It was another big night for Karlee Mathis, who went 8 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points and 4 assists for Columbus. Those 26 points set a new season-high mark for Mathis. Another player making a difference was Thea Schobel, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Smithville now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Columbus, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
Smithville will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Stockdale at 3:00 p.m. on December 7th. Stockdale comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Columbus, they will square off against Fayetteville at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fayetteville will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1206th, while Columbus is ranked 557th).
