The Piedra Vista Panthers will take on the Farmington Scorpions at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Piedra Vista is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Piedra Vista needed a bit of extra time to put away Rio Rancho. They had just enough and edged out the Rams 7-6. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

BROOKELYNN CADRAIN made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over nine innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, KAITLYN TAFOYA was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was MICHAELA PEREA, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, Farmington faced Cibola in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Scorpions took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars. The loss continues a trend for the Scorpions in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost five in a row.
Farmington saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jazlyn Zunie, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Farmington's defeat dropped their record down to 12-12-1. As for Piedra Vista, their win bumped their record up to 17-7-1.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Piedra Vista has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .480. However, it's not like Farmington struggles in that department as they've averaged .446. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Piedra Vista took their victory against Farmington in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 17-11 score. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Scorpions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
