The Liberty Chargers had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They took down Celebration 40-26 on Tuesday. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Liberty has managed all season.
India Smith was her usual excellent self, scoring 13 points along with six steals. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Christina Mossey, who scored eight points.
Despite the loss, Celebration still got an impressive performance from Valeria Martinez, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That was a full 61.5% of Celebration's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Sofia Ortiz was another key contributor, scoring three points along with 13 rebounds.
Liberty's win ended a 16-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-11. As for Celebration, they dropped their record down to 6-11 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Liberty will challenge the Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Haines City is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.3 points per game this season. As for Celebration, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. Edgewater is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
