North Central Kansas recap Oct. 9, 2012
Wamego extended the longest winning streak in North Central Kansas this week by beating Clay Center, 35-12. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Red Raiders.
Wamego took down the Tigers 35-12 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Clay Center's dynamic duo of Caleb Carson and Ricky Huse proved tough for Dale Burkholder's team to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Carson threw for 91 yards and one touchdown and Huse had 52 yards receiving. Dalton Haist helped Clay Center's passing attack out by catching two balls for 39 yards.
Ryan Blake made the biggest impact on defense this week as Todd Rice's team fell to the Red Raiders. The 6-foot-0 senior recorded one fumble.
Drake Hake was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 117 yards on 15 carries as Concordia lost to Wamego. Teammate Nick Thomas added to the ground attack by rushing for 89 yards.
Clay Center's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Tigers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Carson has thrown for 361 yards and three touchdowns this season, while Haist has 13 catches for 157 yards. Carson also leads the league in rushing with 758 yards.
A big matchup in North Central Kansas this week will be when Abilene takes on Chapman. The Cowboys are in fifth place, while the Fighting Irish are in fourth place.
The Panthers made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,356 from 5,140. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 32-13 victory over Chapman last week.
