The Cobre Indians will square off against the Sandia Prep Sundevils at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Cobre has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight losses, while Sandia Prep will come in with three straight wins.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Cobre and Hatch Valley, and Hatch Valley kept the tradition alive. The Indians fell just short of the Bears by a score of 7-6 on Saturday.
Aaron Harrington made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Hunter Montes was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Sandia Prep never let their opponents score on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over Dexter. The Sundevils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by nine runs or more this season.
Jonas Mahboub and Logan Lemons did most of the damage at the plate: Mahboub got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Lemons went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Lemons has become a key player for Sandia Prep: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 9-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Hardcastle, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Sandia Prep now has a winning record of 13-12. As for Cobre, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-10.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cobre hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. However, it's not like Sandia Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cobre came out on top in a nail-biter against Sandia Prep when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 4-3. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Sundevils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
