Canutillo has been on the road for five straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Jefferson Silver Foxes at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Canutillo fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Huskies on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 31-30 to the Huskies.
Rebekah Perez put forth a good effort for the losing side as she almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mikira Wilkes, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Jefferson's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 18th straight loss. They were beaten by El Paso 49-22. While losing is never fun, Jefferson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1442nd, while the Tigers are ranked 578th).
Canutillo has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 17-10 record this season. As for Jefferson, they dropped their record down to 3-21 with that defeat, which was their tenth straight at home.
Everything came up roses for Canutillo against the Silver Foxes when the teams last played back in January as the team secured a 59-9 victory. Does Canutillo have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Silver Foxes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
