Baseball Game Preview: First Colonial Patriots vs. Cape Henry Collegiate Dolphins

First Colonial has won eight straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Cape Henry Collegiate has won eight straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Saturday. The Patriots will welcome the Dolphins at 1:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (First Colonial 1.5, Cape Henry Collegiate 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.

First Colonial is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Virginia's top teams: Ocean Lakes, who was ranked 14th at the time (First Colonial was ranked eighth). The Patriots' pitchers stepped up to hand the Dolphins a 1-0 shutout on Thursday.

Cape Henry Collegiate came out on top against Peninsula Catholic on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Dolphins were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Knights.

Jackson Jones looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cape Henry Collegiate let Ryan Hummel and Colin Lebel run wild. Hummel went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Lebel went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Lebel has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ryan Dobrinsky, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Cape Henry Collegiate always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Peninsula Catholic only posted an OBP of .067.

Cape Henry Collegiate has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for First Colonial, their victory bumped their record up to 13-2.
