The Spanish Fork Dons will face off against the Timpview Thunderbirds at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Spanish Fork is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Spanish Fork is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Maple Mountain, who was ranked fourth at the time (Spanish Fork was ranked fifth). The Dons were the clear victors by a 17-4 margin over the Eagles on Tuesday. Considering the Dons have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Spanish Fork got a great performance from Kayden Lambson as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Lambson has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jason Pintar was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Boston Duvall, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.
Spanish Fork was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maple Mountain only posted a batting average of .269.
Meanwhile, Timpview was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Payson.
Spanish Fork's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Timpview, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Spanish Fork hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Timpview struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Spanish Fork's way against Timpview in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, as Spanish Fork made off with an 8-1 victory. Do the Dons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Thunderbirds turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
