The Westlake Thunder will take on the Juan Diego Catholic Soaring Eagle at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Westlake is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: West Jordan, who was ranked sixth at the time (Westlake was ranked 23rd). Westlake was the clear victor by a 23-7 margin over West Jordan on Monday. The Thunder's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Brilynn Attebery was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.

In other batting news, Westlake let Claire DuBois and Audrey Sherman run wild. DuBois went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Sherman went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those five RBI gave DuBois a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kinzie Bailey, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.
Westlake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .529. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .355 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Juan Diego Catholic's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Providence Hall on Tuesday. Juan Diego Catholic's pitcher stepped up to hand Judge Memorial Catholic a 15-0 shutout. The Soaring Eagle haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Ellie Palmer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.
In other batting news, Juan Diego Catholic got a massive performance out of Olivia Sedillo, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Mattie Montoya was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Juan Diego Catholic's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Westlake, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Westlake hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Juan Diego Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
