The Stewartsville Cardinals''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Mound City at home and fell 58-12. Stewartsville was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Mound City apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2022.
Mound City's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cole Gillenwater, who rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries, and also threw for 19 yards and a touchdown. Gillenwater is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was kane derr, who rushed for 86 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries.
Stewartsville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Mound City, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6.
Stewartsville will be playing in front of their home fans against DeKalb at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. DeKalb is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Mound City, they will head out on the road to face off against Rock Port at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Missouri (Rock Port is ranked 19th, while Mound City is ranked 22nd).
