The Lunenburg Blue Knights will face off against the Littleton Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lunenburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Lunenburg earned a 6-2 victory over Oakmont Regional. The win continues a trend for the Blue Knights in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won three in a row.
Maegan Martell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Rylee Guimond, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Leah Harrington, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 16 runs the game before, Littleton was a bit more limited in their game on Wednesday. They came up short against Advanced Math & Science Academy, falling 15-2.
Littleton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maeve Tule, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Lunenburg's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Littleton, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.
Littleton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lunenburg has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Littleton, though, as they've been averaging 10.5 hits. Given Lunenburg's sizable advantage in that area, the Tigers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Lunenburg took their victory against Littleton in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 12-6 score. Do the Blue Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
