Softball Recap: Berea Wins Going Away Against Burgin

Berea won the last time they faced Burgin and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Pirates were the clear victors by a 15-6 margin over the Bulldogs. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by nine runs or more this season.

Presley Combs and Addison Shouse were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Combs struck out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Shouse tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At bat, Combs got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI, while Shouse went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, Kelsey Slone was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kadence Stepp, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

The win got Berea back to even at 11-11. As for Burgin, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.

Coming up, Berea will face off against Powell County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Berea's pitchers better be ready for this one: Powell County has averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Burgin, they will head out on the road to square off against Frankfort at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
