This season hasn't been kind to the South Effingham Mustangs, who are still winless after their 16th matchup. They took a 62-48 bruising from Brunswick on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to South Effingham of the 80-57 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why South Effingham lost, one person who can't be blamed is Corbin McGuire. Despite the final result, he scored 13 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Aidan Harris, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds.
Caleb Butler continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Brunswick, scoring 20 points along with eight rebounds. Craig Battle was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
South Effingham dropped their record down to 0-16 with that loss, which was their 15th straight at home. As for Brunswick, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-13.
South Effingham will face off against Brunswick at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Brunswick knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully South Effingham likes a good challenge. As for Brunswick, they will be playing at home against South Effingham at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully South Effingham focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday.
