The Tahlequah Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Stillwater Pioneers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Tahlequah never let their opponents score. They breezed by Grant on the road to the tune of 44-0. The win was just what Tahlequah needed coming off of a 67-0 loss in their prior matchup.
Tahlequah can attribute much of their success to Darryn Spahr, who rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, and Cash Mcalvain, who rushed for 97 yards. Mcalvain was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 52 yards.
Meanwhile, Stillwater entered their tilt with Putnam City West with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Stillwater really took it to Putnam City West for the full four quarters, racking up a 59-0 victory at home. The result was nothing new for Stillwater, who have now won four games by 22 points or more so far this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Stillwater to victory, but perhaps none more so than Chance Acord, who threw for 240 yards and four touchdowns on only 18 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Holden Thompson was another key contributor, gaining 152 total yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Tahlequah to 3-5 and Stillwater to 6-2.
Tahlequah took a serious blow against Stillwater in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, falling 55-0. Can Tahlequah avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
