Liberty and Summers County are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. The Raiders will be playing at home against the Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
Shady Spring hit Liberty with a six-run seventh inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Raiders lost 9-1 to the Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Raiders have suffered since April 25, 2024.
Meanwhile, Summers County made easy work of WestSide on Saturday and carried off a 16-3 win. That 13 run margin sets a new team best for the Bobcats this season.
Ryan Oliveros made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. Oliveros was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Colten Jones was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Robey Brown, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Summers County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as WestSide only posted an OBP of .259.
Summers County has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-17-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Liberty, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-7.
Liberty took their win against Summers County when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 12-2 score. Do the Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bobcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
