After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Richard, the Gabriel Richard Fighting Irish were happy to have found some success on Friday. They managed a 62-58 victory over Lutheran North. Given Gabriel Richard's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 166th, while Lutheran North is ranked 396th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lutheran North lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Andrew Starrs, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Starrs posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Brown, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Gabriel Richard pushed their record up to 9-5 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Lutheran North, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-6.
Gabriel Richard won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Lumen Christi Catholic at 6:30 p.m. on January 20th. Lumen Christi Catholic is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games. As for Lutheran North, they will head out on the road to take on Marine City at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
